DPC Statement on Matters Pertaining to the Public Services Card

As the Data Protection Commission ('DPC') have stated the use of the Public Services Card ('PSC') for anything other than social welfare does not have any legal basis applicants for passports and citizenship in Ireland cannot be compelled to provide one. The Department (of Social Protection) are reviewing the DPC report and will respond.

Until we see a Government response I do not believe applicants for passports or citizenship should feel they must supply the PSC card as part of the documentary proofs for the application.

If you have any questions on passports or citizenship applications please let know.
